Requirements

Investors can choose to do one of the following:
  • An investment of at least €500,000 in an existing Luxembourg-based company which performs commercial, artisanal, or industrial activities. The investor should maintain the investment for at least five years.
  • An investment of at least €500,000 in a new Luxembourg-based company which performs commercial, artisanal, or industrial activities. The investor must commit to hiring at least five employees within the three years following the creation of the entity.
  • An investment of at least €3,000,000 in a Luxembourg-based investment and management vehicle.
  • A deposit of at least €20,000,000 with a financial institution established in Luxembourg. This must be maintained for at least five years.

Naturalisation

Citizenship of Luxembourg can be acquired by naturalisation after 5 consecutive years of residence in Luxembourg. Applicants must pass an examination that includes a test of Luxembourgish language proficiency. Applicants must also attend some civic instruction sessions, which can be in English or Portuguese, as well as in the three languages of Luxembourg. Luxembourg allows dual citizenship and does not require new citizens to renounce their previous citizenship. Applicants must have a clean criminal record.
